Anonymous Engaged Cyber Attack To Bring Down British Prime Minister’s Office, Home Office & Ministry of Justice

Anonymous Engaged Massive Cyber AttackTo Bring Down British Prime Minister’s Office, Home Office & Ministry of Justice

One of the official twitter account of hacker collective Anonymous warned that they will engage cyber attack against the Govt of UK on 4th of April. The tweet said:- "EXPECT a DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service) every Saturday on the UK Government sites." As expected it happens hacktivist performs massive denial of service attacks multiple U.K. government websites over the country’s “draconian surveillance proposals” and “derogation of civil rights.” At the time of writing, the following websites are down: homeoffice.gov.uk (Home Office), number10.gov.uk (10 Downing Street - British Prime Minister’s Office), and justice.gov.uk (Ministry of Justice). A message on the site said the page was currently unavailable homeoffice.gov.uk "due to a high volume of traffic", suggesting a denial of service attack had been perpetrated. A message on Twitter claiming to be from Anonymous, a loosely organised group of hackers, said the action was "for your draconian surveillance proposals". The apparent attack came after it emerged last week that the Government was planning a massive expansion of its powers to monitor the email exchanges and website visits of every person in the UK. Under legislation expected in next month's Queen's Speech, internet companies will be instructed to install hardware enabling GCHQ - the Government's electronic "listening" agency - to examine "on demand" any phone call made, text message and email sent, and website accessed, in "real time" without a warrant.
A Home Office spokesman said: "We are aware of some reports that the Home Office website may be the subject of an online protest. We have put all potential measures in place and will be monitoring the situation very closely." The Home Office added that if a successful denial of service attempt did occur tonight, it would "liaise with the technical team and update as necessary".

Send Text Messages From Your Browser With MightyText & MobiTexter [Android]

send free text messages
One of the main differences between a phone call, text message and messenger bird is the so-called deadline of reply. That’s in an ideal world. In the real world, people forget their cellphones at home, or are prone to ignore them in favor of some other — more interesting, or more pressing — activity.
That’s one motive behind synchronizing text messages with your computer. The other is the ease of typing with an old-fashioned keyboard. Especially for people who use text messaging frequently and don’t want to spend half their lives hunched over tiny touch screens, this is invaluable.

MightyText – Seamless Google Chrome Integration

MightyText is a twofold application. The MightyText extension goes in your Google Chrome web browser, the MightyText application on your Android phone. With hardly 2 minutes worth of work, your Android messages finds a second home on your computer.
Right now, MightyText is only available on Google Chrome, but support for Firefox, Safari and Internet Explorer is in the pipeline.

The MightyText extension button unfolds to show you your inbox, which is constantly kept in sync with your Android text messages. Even the messages that were not sent through MightyText. However, one of the more impressive feats of MightyText is its ability to import allpre-existing messages and contacts from your phone as well.

Although a Google Chrome extension doesn’t sound like the most accessible way to access your text messages, the MightyText message notifications go a long way to proving otherwise. Even when you’re using another application, a small pop-up will inform you of any new messages. This pop-up will not fade away, so there’s no chance of accidentally missing it. Of course, you can always disable this feature to make MightyText less invasive.

MobiTexter – Text from Any Browser, Anywhere
MobiTexter, too, is an Android application that lets you send text messages from your browser. This time, through a webpage instead of a browser extension. This way it’s not bound to any specific browser. Contrary to MightyText, MobiTexter has a very rudimentary interface. Among other things, MobiTexter does not create message threads, but shows all your messages in chronological order.
send free text messages
There’s a flip side to this coin. Having this light interface does wonders for its compatibility. When I say MobiTexter will run in almost any browser, it’s not an empty boast. In the screenshot above, you can see MobiTexter running on Dolphin HD, a third-party iPad browser. Texting with your tablet — even without 3G — is no harder than opening a webpage. With iOS, you could even put a separate icon on your homescreen.
This is what makes MightyText and MobiTexter such a killer team. With MightyText installed, you can manage your messages on your personal computer. MobiTexter, on the other hand, lets you do the same on any computer, or portable device, so you can use a decent keyboard to compose your messages, wherever you are.

Cost and Reliability

Both of these applications are available free of charge. Any SMS will be sent at your usual fee. However, because both applications use a data connection to communicate with your computer, additional 3G bandwidth may have to be taken into account.
If you use these applications for time-sensitive business, there’s another thing you have to take into account. Neither application is infallible, so it might take some time before your text message is actually sent, even though they are normally pushed to your device instantly.
Have you tried any of these apps before? Do you have a different suggestion? Let us know in the comments!

5 Websites To Instantly Convert Text To Speech

text to speech

Text to speech (and the inverse, in instances likeDragon Naturally Speaking) is a brilliant technology that can be used in a lot of different ways. Ever since Windows‘ Microsoft Sam, text to speech has been pretty accessible to your desktop commoner.
Speech to text is usually the more popular sister to this technology, but can text to speech actually be used for any real benefit? Surely you may not enjoy reading huge passages of text. It helps the visually impaired, too. I’ve laid text-to-speech tracks over top of my Winamp playlist before, to memorize and study certain things. That’s a technique that I continue to use to this very day.
Let me introduce you to five solutions if you’re interested in using text to speech in similar ways.

ABC3MP3

text to speech
To begin the conversion process, you’ll want to click the Convert link across the top menu. From there, you can enter your text body (up to 2,000 words). You’ll also need to enter a valid email address, as they send the file as an attachment to your email.
As a web-savvy guy and active Internet marketer, let me suggest that you use a throwaway email account for receiving these recordings. I can’t say I’m too sure of what they use stored email accounts for, but asking for your age and location seems excessive and a little irrelevant. Take heed!
ABC2MP3 is one of the best converters I’ve found. You can select American or British accents and even choose the spoken words per minute.
free text to speech
Festvox is extremely fast and free. Right from the main page, you’re able to select one of four audio types and voices of either American, Spanish, Indian, Scottish, or British.

vozMe

free text to speech
vozMe is just as quick as Festvox, but converts text to the MP3 format. No registration is required and you can immediately download and save your text to speech recordings. vozMe also supports conversion of the Spanish language.

SpokenText

free text to speech
SpokenText is by far the most extensive solution I’ve found. Though it requires account registration, it’s completely worth it.
After registering an account, you’ll want to log in and click “Create a new recording” from the Dashboard. From there you can convert an entire block of text, document, webpage, or email. You’re able to choose through many premium-quality voices and select the voice speed and volume. SpokenText also gives you the option to send an email to you when your recording has been processed (as there is a short queue).
All of your recordings are saved to your Dashboard, which is another big plus. The only downside to SpokenText is that there is a nagging advertisement for the website prefixed and appended to every recording you create. That can bloat a five-second clip to double its intended size, which is a little annoying.

Zamzar

text to speech
More than just text to speech, Zamzar is one of the most feature-rich and functional conversion tools on the web. In our scenario, you’ll want to either convert your block of text to a TXT file and upload it, or enter a URL that you want to convert. From there, you’ll need to select one of the many file formats to convert it to. There are a lot of conversion types to look through, so choose what suits your situation best. You need to enter a valid email address, and within just a few minutes you should receive your recording.
I hope you guys are able to harness speech synthesis for some type of personal benefit. It’s helped me in a few situations and there should be a use in it for almost anyone. Share which website is your favorite and lets get together on some ideas in the comments.

3 Websites To Get Started With Learning C++ Programming Language

Learning to program can be difficult for many, even with relatively easy programming languages. While Java is easier to get started with (where we have numerous articles here at MakeUseOf for Java as well as Internet scripting languages and deciding which one to learn), C++ may not be.
However, those with some programming experience will find learning C++ less difficult than beginners, although there are plenty of good websites to teach yourself with.

Why Learn C++?

Why would you care to learn C++? It is a very powerful programming language which basically has a “trust the programmer” motto. While that stance also increases the chance for errors without the complier freaking out, it does give the programmer more flexibility in how they actually write their code.
Due to this, most programs are at least partially written in this language or its cousin, C. Learning C++ is also beneficial in another way – as C++ is very similar to C, you can understand and (for the most part) code in C as well.

LearnCpp.com

c programming
LearnCpp is a great place for both beginners and somewhat experienced programmers to get started with C++. The author of the site has very well written, thorough tutorials that literally cover every basic lesson (such as installing a good IDE, like my favorite Geany for Linux) to some pretty advanced stuff (such as the latest changes in the 2011 revision of C++).
Out of all the sites I list here, I recommend trying this one out first before all the others. The tutorials follow a very logical pathway that builds on previous tutorials as you go along. Additionally, after each lesson, the author offers you a quiz to see if you understood what the lesson was about, which I find fantastic.
c programming examples
CPlusPlus is another great website for learning C++. Although this website also has some tutorials, it is better used as a reference. There are multitudes of programming concepts that you can look up, which is very helpful when you want to use a certain technique but happen to get stuck.
This site may not be the absolute best for beginners, as its referential nature implies that it includes more jargon than LearnCpp.com would. However, the information included on the site is still very good and should be used as long as you understand what it says.

Cprogramming.com

c programming
In case the first two websites aren’t your cup of tea for whatever reason, maybe you’ll have a bit more luck with Cprogramming.com. This website also includes a well-written tutorial and other goodies you can definitely make use of. I just personally happen to prefer LearnCpp.com because I find the tutorials on that site a little easier to understand, and it’s easier to navigate between lessons as they’re more organized (again, my opinion). However, your opinion may not be the same as mine, so if this works better for you, use it!
The good thing about Cprogramming.com is the fact that it includes both tutorials for C++ as well as C, so you can learn both languages through tutorials written by the same author. This is great for drawing comparisons between the two languages, plus if you found learning C++ to be easier with this site, it will most likely be just as easy with the C tutorial.

Conclusion

Hopefully, armed with these three sites, you’ll be able to get a grasp on C/C++ and start writing your own programs. Just remember that as you get started, functionality should be the priority over appearance, so don’t feel like your program is worth nothing if it doesn’t have a GUI. The algorithms and other coding are what makes a program do what it’s supposed to do, and if it works, then great! Mission accomplished!
Let us know what sites you prefer in the comments below.
