Textaizer Pro: One Text Mosaic & ASCII Art Generator To Rule Them All From Colombozone

For those of you who aren’t familiar with ASCII art, it’s a form of graphic designing wherein a photo is made entirely out of the characters from the ASCII chart. Basically, it is text-based visual art that can be created with any text editor. However, manually creating ASCII art takes up a lot of time and requires a lot of concentration. If you want to convert an existing photo, for instance, a photo of yourself, into ASCII art, you can use a software to do the job for you. Previously, we reviewed ASCII Generator (an open source application that lets you convert images to text-based art, allows adjustment of density levels, brightness, contrast and dither of the converted images). Today, we have a similar application with a much more extensive set of options. Meet Textaizer Pro, a text mosaic and ASCII art creator for Windows; perhaps the best, most comprehensive one we’ve come across so far.

Other than ASCII art, the application allows you to also create Mosaic, Word, Crazy, Draw, Text and Video art. The Tools menu allows you to fix basic image settings, including Brightness, Contrast and Saturation. The main interface has all the menus and their options on the right side, the source image preview is available at the top right, while the preview of the converted image can be viewed in the left pane.

Each art creation mode has its own extended options. For example, if you select Mosaic, you can specify the Text Mosaic settings, including Size Multiplier, Font Size, Line Distance etc, the Text Mosaic options, such as Color Match Engine, Font change etc, and Circle settings, like Circle Density and Kerning.

Other modes (accessible from the extreme right side of the interface) allow you to create different types of art, including ASCII, Draw, Text, Crazy, Word etc. If you select the Text mode, you can write text using characters of your choice. Moreover, the application lets you change the Macro Font, Font Size and make it Bold and Italic.

The finished images can be saved as JPG, as Text, in an HTML file, and as a meta file. They can also be directly printed from within the interface. During testing, we ran into some stability issues, and hope that the developer will work towards fixing them in the next release. Textaizer Pro works on both 32-bit versions of Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8. Testing was done on a 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate machine.

On Metric's new single, "Youth Without Youth," the Canadian electro-rock act embraces its anger with . . . a dance party. "Youth Without Youth" fits in line with Metric's MO -- bold statements backed by synths and sweet female vocals -but this time, the subject matter is more political. Lyrically, frontwoman Emily Haines toys with powerful imagery, using phrases like "double dutch with a hand grenade" and "rubber soul with a razor blade" to describe a young life full of malaise and even criminality. Perhaps it's fitting that a song about innocence lost and getting stomped on by the Man features a sleazy, sexy beat. Fans may feel bad about dancing along to these sentiments, but beyond the beat lies a simple riff and a high-pitched twinge of feedback, the repetition of which both inspires an eerie vibe and, more importantly, ties the music and lyrics together.

Flipboard For Android Leaked, Available For All Devices From Colombozone

Once the official Instagram Android app finally hit the Google Play Store last moth, most users (including me) set their sights on another popular iOS-exclusive app, Flipboard – an elegant, customizable magazine-style news and social feed reader. Just last week, along with the announcement of the much-anticipated Samsung Galaxy S III, came the news that Flipboard will be debuting on Android as an SGS III-exclusive app. Now, unless you’re one of the lucky few to-be owners of said device, chances are bleak that you’ll be getting a taste of Flipboard on your Android any time soon. That said, XDA member, Valcho, seems to have completely different plans, as he has managed to pull the APK of the much sought-after news reader from his Galaxy S III (a test unit, presumably). So, albeit not officially, Flipboard for Android is now available for download, and is ready to give Google Currents a good run for its money in the race of the best news reading Android apps. If you’ve ever had the chance to witness the beauty of Flipboard running on an iOS device (especially the iPad), you’ll appreciate the elegant flipping of pages. For many, it is easily the best medium of news reading on a mobile device. Apart from presenting you with heaps of content gleaned from several preloaded news sources, Flipboard also supports fetching latest news stories from a wide array of online news service providers of choice. You can associate your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google Reader and other accounts with the app to sift through the latest news and your social media updates from under the same roof.

You have complete control over the app’s cover page and subsequent pages, and once you log in to the app using your Flipboard account, you can use the same configuration across all devices.

Using the app is quite simple. All you need to do is swipe from bottom to top on the app’s main (Cover) page to sift through added news and social media sources. Using the same gestures while within a news source switches between news item. While reading an article, you can swipe from left to right to head back to your Flipboard cover page.

To manage all the news content and your social accounts, just hit the search tab at the top. From this screen, you can also search for a news item/source of interest, and navigate to a desired news category to add the relevant source to your personalized Flipboard edition. All the tiles visible on the app’s main interface can be maneuvered, meaning that you can reposition them anywhere on the magazine as you wish. For this, long press a tile, and using the drag-and-drop gesture, place them anywhere you like.

You can favorite/like a news story that has flown in from one of your social media. Plus, you can also post status updates to your Facebook Wall and Twitter Timeline straight from within the app, and reply/retweet to, and comment on various content shared by your Twitter friends. In addition, you can natively share the link of a news story, bookmark it to read later, view it on its original web source, and share it via mail.

Last but not the least, the only additional feature in the app’s Android variant, the homescreen widget. The widget is pretty simple as of this writing. It comes in two sizes (4×2 and 4×1) displays the latest story and lets you sift through stories by pressing a small refresh button in the bottom-right corner.

The delight of experiencing Flipboard on a Galaxy Nexus apart, in complete honesty, I must admit that the app does suffer a slight lag, especially while flipping through pages. Though, what was more alarming than that, was that it seemed to be leeching battery at quite a pace.

Though, that doesn’t change the fact that it is a peach of an app, regardless of whatever minor issues it might currently have, we would suggest you head over to the XDA forums (link provided below) to grab your copy of the APK. We would love to know your first experience with Flipboard on Android, and your opinion on how it will fare in the Play Store once it is officially released.

Flo Rida has long been known for using vocal stars (Ke$ha, Sia) and anthemic samples (Etta James' "Something's Got a Hold on Me" for "Good Feeling") to provide the hooks for his singles, but on "Whistle," the rapper takes the reins all by himself. The result is a sun-drenched, happy-go-lucky tune that's sure to provide Flo with a horse in the summer anthem race. Lyrically, "Whistle" is perhaps his least subtle single ("Can you blow my whistle, baby?" he sings on the chorus), but the song's whistle hook is bound to make listeners forget all about it, assuming they're not all whistled-out from last year's "Moves Like Jagger" and OneRepublic's "Good Life." Flo's not a formidable singer, so his latest offering may lack the pop pizzazz of "Good Feeling" and "Wild Ones." But with the track's care-free vibe, the rapper's transgressions are easy to forgive.
